Simulated process separation is the most commonly used type of separation for printing photo-realistic images and t-shirt designs that contain millions of colors. The sep process uses elliptical halftones that layer on top of each other using opaque inks to create the multitude of colors in the art.
Simulated Process Color Separations
The Simulated Process technique offers the ability to print full color images on light or dark substrates.
Compared to true Process Color, the inks used with Simulated Process are considerable more opaque. This additional opacity provides better coverage on darker fabrics. This fact make them the most widely used method of separation.
The Simulated Process uses a basic set of 8 colors for most images. These separations are most often customized for the specific design. The number screens is increased or reduced depending on these image requirements.
Even though the inks are more opaque than process, the semi-opaque properties do allow for overprint blending to create a multitude of colors.
- Usually requires 8 screens for a full color image
- The partially opaque inks provide better coverage over dark garments
The Critical Role of Quality Color Separation in Screen Printing
In the vibrant world of screen printing, achieving stunning, accurate, and consistent results hinges on a often-underestimated factor: color-separation. While it might sound like a technical detail, contracting a good color separation service is not just beneficial; it's absolutely crucial for the success of any screen printing operation.
Poor color separation can lead to a cascade of problems. Imagine a multi-color design where the hues are off, the edges are fuzzy, or the colors bleed into one another. This not only results in wasted ink, substrates, and production time, but also leads to dissatisfied clients and a damaged reputation. Conversely, expert color separation ensures that each color in your design is perfectly isolated and prepared for its individual screen, guaranteeing sharp details, accurate color matching, and smooth transitions.
A professional color separation service brings specialized knowledge and cutting-edge software to the table. They understand the nuances of different ink types, mesh counts, and printing processes, translating complex digital artwork into print-ready files that will perform flawlessly on press. This expertise saves printers countless hours of troubleshooting and rework, allowing them to focus on efficient production and delivering high-quality products.
Ultimately, investing in a top-tier color separation service is an investment in your screen printing business's efficiency, quality, and profitability. It's the silent hero that ensures your designs pop, your clients are happy, and your business thrives in a competitive market.
